GOLDEN GLOBES
Hollywood's awards season kicked off today with the 78th Golden Globes! Like a lot of award ceremonies since COVID-19 began, the 78th Golden Globe Awards were a little quieter, and a little more virtual than usual. The hosts, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, brought us the action from opposite sides of the US. Nomadland took out the evenings biggest prize for best drama. Soul won best animated feature. And Chadwick Boseman, mostly known for playing the Black Panther, took out best actor in the drama category. He died from cancer last year, but his wife accepted the award on his behalf. There were also some big controversies this year, like over Minari, the story of a Korean American family. It's been critically acclaimed but organisers decided it wasn't eligible to compete in the best Drama category because not enough of the movie is in English. Instead, it ended up winning for best-foreign language movie. And Ben Stiller proved you don't need to be a winner to enjoy a Golden Globe. As long as you bring your own. And it's made of banana bread.

SPOTIFY AND K-POP
K-Pop lovers around the world are kind of annoyed right now. At least the ones using Spotify. A bunch of music has disappeared from the streaming service because of a disagreement with a Korean music distributor. It's not just fans who are upset, some of the bands are frustrated people can't access their music at the moment. Spotify only launched in Korea a few weeks ago but it's competing with existing services including one that owns said vanishing music. And until there's a new agreement, well, we'll probably see more posts from disappointed fans.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA PLASTICS BAN
Today is a bad day to be plastic in South Australia. It's the first state in the country to ban some single-use plastics. Plastic drinking straws, plastic cutlery, plastic stirrers, all banned. Yep, the government is trying to cut down on waste that ends up in landfill or in our oceans, so it's stopping all of these items from being sold, supplied or distributed. Businesses caught breaking the rules could face fines of up to $20,000. While lightweight single-use plastic bags have already been banned across Australia, South Australia is the first state to ban these plastics. Other states are getting on board soon, too, and Victoria's just announced it's getting rid of them by 2023. But today's ban is just the start for SA, the plan is to add more items to the banned list, with polystyrene containers to go by early 2022.

INFLATABLE PERFORMANCE
Just in case you're in need of a good social distancing reminder, check out this recent photo shoot in Germany. The guy behind it stuck artists like dancers and musicians in inflated plastic bubbles as a symbol of how people have been isolated during the pandemic. The orchestra's making a pretty good go of it, really.

MASSIVE ICEBERG
Now this is sure to make one impressive photograph. You're looking at a massive iceberg that's broken off from Antarctica. It's about the size of Los Angeles, almost 13 hundred square kilometres.

THYLACINE PHOTO
Remember that time someone claimed they had photographic proof of the extinct Tasmanian Tiger? Well, they've now made the photos public, and yeah. You be the judge, I guess.
