The Footloose soundtrack spent 10 weeks at #1 in the ultra competitive year of 1984 where only 5 album went to the number one spot. The least amount to do so in history It was a battle of the blockbusters with Prince Purple Rain’s 5 month domination at the end of the year, it was also the last stand of Micheal Jackson Thriller which even though it was released in late 1982 began 84 at #1 for the first 3 and half months. the biggest movie soundtrack of the year in the aforementioned Footloose, Bruce Springsteen’s Born in the usa during mid summer and Huey Lewis sneaking in for one week in june with sports. In celebration of 1984, in the comments below tell me your favorite musical memory of 1984.

The 80s vinyl hit Footloose soundtrack had many smashes including another #1 hit, Let’s Hear it For the Boy by Denice Wiliams as well as the big duet Almost Paradise by Ann Wilson of Heart and Mike Reno of Loverboy that went top 10. It had another 3 top 100 hits. It was the title track Footloose though that did the most damage spending three weeks at #1 on the billboard Hot 100. It was the fourth biggest song of the year and cemented Kenny Loggins as the king of the movie soundtrack which would be even more apparent when he released Danger zone from top gun a few years later.

I’m fortunate to call Kenny a friend, having interviewed him many times over the last few years and getting the inside view of this iconic song. I’ve also interviewed Kevin Bacon about it. One of my few freak out interview moments. I’m usually pretty calm and collected but when I sat down next to Kevin Bacon I was a little bit floored. I mean every other movie in the mid 80s to the 90s had the guy in it. I remember thinking I’m officially one degree from Kevin Bacon. In this video, we have a funny cameo appearance, plus an exclusive live acoustic version of the song by Kenny and his guitarist and backup vocalist Scott Bernard. We had an earlier video of this on our channel but this has new footage and more stories, It’s a cant miss.
